Product Spotlight: Refine & Renew Duo Challenge!

It's been too long since I've touched on one of my favorite subjects: product! Today our topic is even more timely, as it includes a challenge for the New Year. This January I'll be taking the Refine & Renew challenge from Skin Script RX using the two products we are about to discuss.

The Refine & Renew Duo is a powerhouse set featuring Raspberry Refining Scrub and Beta-Carotene Papain Renewal serum. Starting January 1st, I will be taking a before picture and starting on my new regime using the scrub several times weekly in the AM and apply the serum nightly. The challenge calls for one week of use, so I'll check in with pictures in one week, but if all goes well, I might just take the challenge all month!

So what exactly will these products be doing for me? Let's take a look at the scrub first. Skin Script's Raspberry Refining Scrub is one of my favorite products from line, as it is a great gentle exfoliating that works for almost all skin types. It makes a great alternative to harsh face scrubs, which can actually damage your skin. (Check out my recent post on St. Ives Apricot Scrub, for more info on this.)

In lieu of abrasive exfoliants, this scrub uses amazing natural ingredients including jojoba beads and blue corn meal. The scrub helps gently buff away dry and dead surface skin while refining the poor. It also contains real raspberry, marionberry and bamboo stem as active ingredients. These potent ingredients contain antioxidants and act as natural brighteners. They are also anti-inflammatory and can help soothe broken out or irritated skin.

The next step of our duo is the Beta-Carotene Papain Renewal Serum. This sophisticated serum is also technically an exfoliant as it helps promote cell turnover. An alternative to retinol or Retin-A products, it is safe even for pregnant women, as it does not contain harsh chemicals. Ingredients like papaya enzyme help with surface exfoliation and soften the skin. While other ingredients like aloe and natural fatty acids help repair the skin - soothing inflammation and reinforcing the skin's protective barrier.

Both of these products are a great place to start if you are looking to take your skin care up a notch but don't know where to start. The scrub provides some great basic exfoliation (which we all need during the dry winter months) without stripping your skin. I'm also a big fan of the serum for people like myself who may be intimidated by incorporating a retinol product into their routine. Retinol or Vitamin A in skin care is wonderful for keeping the skin youthful, but it is a potent anti-aging ingredient and can require some initial adjustment. Think of this as a baby step toward long-term age management goals.

I am very excited to begin my challenge and see how my skin responds to adding these two simple steps to my home care. I will report back after the first week with my Before/After picture and keep you posted as I go.

If you'd like to join me in the Refine & Renew Duo challenge, I would love some company! You can purchase your duo kit here, or pick up a sample at your next facial appointment. I can't wait to see the results!
