Reiki & Reiki Facials at i {heart} skin!

Hello all!

I know it's been another hot minute since I last blogged. My social media calendar got away from me for a bit, but I'm happy to report that I'm back and in a blogging kind of mood. Look for lots more content going forward and feel free to get in touch if there's a topic you'd like to see here on the blog. I'm always happy to take suggestions and deliver the information you want to know about! My email is listed at the bottom of this post, so don't be a stranger!

ANYWAY.

Let's dive into what's new at my facial boutique! Today, I'm here to tell you about a new modality that I've been practicing and am now incorporating into facials. Reiki is a hands on energy healing modality helps balance our bodies' energy systems - otherwise known as the chakra system.

If you've heard of chakras but don't know what they are, don't worry. For now, what you need to know about Reiki is that Reiki reduces mental chatter and anxiety by quieting the mind and calming the emotions, so that you feel at peace, grounded and connected to a sense of purpose. Reiki is not a religion and does not conflict with any religious beliefs. Rather it works to enhance healing and connect us with our own sense of inner peace.

So what does Reiki have to do with the skin and why am I incorporating it into my practice at i {heart} skin?

One word: stress.

For several years now, working on the skin and on hundreds of faces, I have come to recognize what a large role stress plays in our skin health. By messing up our sleep, our eating patterns, our hormone levels and much more, stress contributes to just about all our skin issues. From acne to premature aging, your skin registers internal stress and can be one of the first body systems to show it externally.

As an esthetician I have little control over the stressful lives of my clients, but in order to treat their skin, I began looking into modalities that were within my scope of practice, that just might help lower their stress levels. A facial in itself can be amazing self care for stress, but Reiki takes stress reduction to the next level, leaving clients feeling more grounded and empowered to go about their day.

What does Reiki feel like and what does it entail?

If this is the first time you're hearing about Reiki, it might be a little hard to understand how it works. When I had my first treatment a little over a year ago, I had no idea what to expect. I just knew that my stress and anxiety levels were extremely high and I had been hearing about Reiki a lot. I decided to give it a try. Afterward I felt relaxed, clear-headed and confident, and I continued to feel the positive effect for a couple of weeks following.

Although the format may vary from practitioner to practitioner, it basically entails having the reiki practitioner place their hands on (or slightly hovering above) different positions on the body to balance your energy. You may feel warmth from their hands or a slight energy vibration, you may relax to the point of wanting to sleep, which is perfectly acceptable to do during your Reiki treatment.

At present, I am incorporating Reiki as part of my seasonal Bloom & Blossom facial and it will later join my menu as a regular offering. A Reiki facial follows the same format as any traditional facial. Throughout the treatment I perform energy work by subtly applying Reiki hand positions during the steps of a regular facial, for example while a mask is sitting. For my Reiki facials, I use a dreamy and soothing arnica mask, with lavender, grapefruit and pomegranate. Gemstone therapy and aromatherapy are also infused without.

Afterward you may feel relaxed and a little sleepy or zen, but ultimately I feel balanced and positive following a Reiki session. As part of my training to offer Reiki, I have a regular practice of performing self Reiki treatments and I notice cumulative benefits in terms of reduced anxiety and overall feelings of well-being.

What else do you need to know about Reiki?

There are no negative side effects to Reiki. Another reason I chose Reiki as a modality for i {heart} skin is because I’ve found that without inner glow, there can be no real outer glow. Being aligned with ourselves and the unique energies we all possess, is what allows that inner light to shine through. Reiki is ideal for facilitating that alignment.

In the future, I'll be blogging a little more about the chakra system, how it works with Reiki, and how we can balance our own energy when feeling out of whack. In the meantime, feel free to shoot me any questions you might have about Reiki for future posts and if you're ready to experience it for yourself, be sure to book the Bloom & Blossom Facial through June 19th!
