The Magic of Microcurrent!

Hello and Happy Spring! I couldn't think of a better day to hop on the blog and tell you all about the latest rejuvenating modality to hit the menu at i {heart} skin. Microcurrent!

Many of you had been asking about this technology, which has been trending in skin care for some time now. And with good reason! After doing a little more research for myself, I quickly became excited about the ways in which microcurrent could support the other modalities that I work. I invested in a NuFace TrinityPRO device for the treatment room and have been getting to know it for the past couple of months. Here's what I've learned:

What is microcurrent?

By definition, microcurrent is a low-level electrical current that mimics the electrical current of the body. The technology was first developed in a clinical setting when it was found to be beneficial to healing surgical wounds and treating nerve paralysis through muscle stimulus. It has since found its way into the beauty industry for facial contouring, toning and firming of aging skin.

How does it work?
Microcurrent sends gentle waves of current through the skin, tissues and muscles. Microcurrent has been shown to stimulate ATP production. ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate which drives the creation of key structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin.

When applied to the skin, microcurrent triggers a chemical reaction to release ATP and facilitate healing and regeneration. Similar to LED light therapy, microcurrent charges cellular activity. The skin cells then have additional energy to perform at a more youthful rate.

How does microcurrent work in a facial?

The benefits of microcurrent can be immediate, preventative and cumulative. Like any fitness workout for the rest of the body, microcurrent acts similar to a workout for the face. Over time, muscle memory is developed and cumulative results occur.

In a facial, microcurrent is an amazing compliment to other modalities. It pairs well with advanced exfoliation such as dermaplaning or microdermabrasion for faster healing time. When combined with LED Light Therapy the two act synchronistically to promote optimal skin health. Microcurrent promotes hydration in the skin, helping plump fine lines. For acneic clients, micocurrent is great after extractions. It is anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. It can even facilitate quicker healing of acne lesions.

Of course, my favorite benefit of microccurrent is the boost it can provide to my advanced facial massage techniques. After using my hands to perform a sculpting and/or detoxifying massage, microcurrent takes results to the next level by signaling the muscles to stay lifted and toned. Bonus! Another added benefit is that microcurrent has been shown to aid in lymphatic drainage, which should be the goal of any good facial massage.

Can microcurrent be used at home?

There are plenty of benefits to just one microcurrent session, which I mentioned above. But,what I can say from personal experience is that having an at-home device is worthy investment for your skin care routine. In my quest to learn more about the NuFace device, I tested it first at home and noticed almost immediate results. Within just a few days of regular use my skin was brighter, tighter and my face appeared to be more sculpted.

Because ATP can't be stored in the body, an at-home microcurrent routine is recommended for optimal rejuvenation. The more frequently you receive a microcurrent treatment, the more rapidly the facial muscles respond to stimulation and lift. Over time the muscles will stay lifted. For this reason, a series of microcurrent treatments is often recommended to women considering a facelift.

Clients who are interested in NuFace for home care have the option to purchase a professional strength device through me, to maintain results at home. The NuFace TrinityPRO features over 15% more microcurrent power than NuFace devices purchasable online, but retails for the same price. Priced at $325, the NuFace is a bit of an initial investment. That said, for the cost of about two microcurrent facials with me, you can have microcurrent every day! I'm sharing this secret, because I'm all about my clients getting the best results and the most return on investment.

How to Experience Microcurrent at i {heart} skin
If you're ready to experience this magical modality there are a few ways to come try it out in a facial! At present a NuFace Microcurrent Lifting treatment is available as part of any Advanced Facial or the newest Advanced Beauty Ritual Facial - The Power Hour, which features advanced exfoliation and microcurrent,

Stay tuned for more microcurrent options hitting the menu this summer and in the meantime, feel free to reach out with any questions I haven't answered!

Until next time!

<3 Jenny
